Toyota iQ (09 - 14)
This was built with a view to becoming as prominent in the compact car segment, as the likes of the Corolla and Avensis were in theirs. Chief Engineer Hiroki Nakajama has overseen worked to make this distinctive. It’s smaller than most of its rivals, but thanks to some ingenious space-saving ideas, there’s a surprising amount of room inside. The deceptively spacious cabin has the clever 3+1 seating system, so you can fit four people as long as its three adults and one child. There’s an impressive level of standard kit. The iQ is eye catching and an unusual looking car but highly effective nonetheless. To drive, it is one of those fun cars with an ultra-tight turning circle and precise steering - perfect for nipping about the city streets. The ride is surprisingly comfortable and the engines are efficient.
