Volkswagen Tiguan (16 - present)
This is the car that sees Volkswagen truly arrive to the compact SUV market. A sharp new look, the latest in-car technology and all the interior refinement we've come to expect from the brand make the new Tiguan one of the most attractive packages in the segment at the moment. Now based on the same MQB platform as the Golf, it's wider and longer than before which means more room for back seat passengers and the biggest boot in its class. It also makes for better handling – it feels more car like than ever before and there's a very capable four wheel drive option. It's powered by a 2.0l TDI with either 150 or 190hp, with a 1.4l TSI option available for diesel-phobes. The price tag may seem a little steep but the all-round quality means you can look at it as a less expensive alternative to a BMW X1 or an Audi Q3 rather than a pricier Qashqai.
