The S1 is the sportier, high performance version of the standard A1 and you don’t have to look too closely to see the brilliance that makes this car so special. It’s a supermini, yet Audi have managed to squeeze a fantastic engine into an all-wheel drive car without compromising its performance. All this while managing to remain one of the more compact cars in its class. Add to that bigger brakes, a superior suspension system, and a Drive Select menu with electronically controlled dampers and switchable settings – the S1 is hugely impressive, and an absolute joy to drive. It handles fantastically - steering is sharp and the staunch turbocharged engine delivers impressive muscle. As Audi say of the S1; maximum power put to maximum use. Equally as encouraging is the typical Audi soundtrack from beneath the bonnet, otherwise known as the S-specific engine sound which really adds to the experience and the big car feel.
